Recap: TRAPXART Toronto

Let's give it up for my first art show! Unique and true to my culture, TRAPXART's event was full of inspiring creatives. This is a black owned platform that throws parties nationwide highlighting artists, models and entrepreneurs. When contacted to participate in the Toronto event, I really wondered how I would fit in. I didn't feel like I made art that related. Until I realized that everything is related. See, the trap genre is a label that rappers have been thrown into, stereotypes and all. Individuals that chose the craft of poetry to express a reality that myself and many others can relate to. My music playlist was an example of how trap music inspired my work, as artists like Moneybagg Yo, Young Money, Tee Grizzley, Lil Durk, GloRilla, Babyface Ray, Burna Bandz, often played in the background when I painted. Now I could consider that Trap Art.

Thank you to everyone who came out to this event, it means so much to me. Combining art with music is the collaboration of my dreams. As I've grown my mission has changed. It's about bridging communities instead of cancelling them. It's only up from here.
